Is it Still Worth Starting a Blog in 2026?
Starting a blog in 2026 might sound unusual to some people. With social media everywhere, many people wonder if blogging is still relevant or if anyone actually reads blogs anymore.
I used to ask myself the same question.
For a long time I wondered who actually writes blogs today and, more importantly, who reads them.
But when you start searching on Google for things like travel tips, family days out, or ideas for places to visit, you quickly notice something interesting.
Many of the results that appear are blog posts written by real people sharing their experiences.
That made me realise that blogging still has a place online.

The Idea Had Been in My Head for Years
The idea of starting a blog wasn’t new to me.
Years ago someone suggested that we should document our experiences as a family. At the time life was busy and the idea never really went anywhere.
But the thought stayed somewhere in the back of my mind.
Eventually I reached a point where I thought that if I didn’t try now, I might never try.
So I finally decided to start.
How Much It Actually Costs to Start a Blog
Before building the website myself, I actually spoke to someone about creating a website for me.
The quote I received was around £700.
That felt like a big investment, especially if I didn’t know whether the blog would work or if anyone would even visit it.
So instead of paying someone to build the website, I decided to try doing it myself.
Starting a Blog in 2026 With Wix
After looking at different options, I decided to use Wix to build the website.
One thing that surprised me during my research is that you can actually start a website on Wix completely free.
The free plan allows you to design a website, publish pages, and even create a blog without paying anything at the beginning.
However, there are some limitations with the free version.
For example, the website will display Wix branding and the address of your site will include a Wix subdomain instead of your own domain name. Instead of something like yourwebsite.com, the address will look more like username.wixsite.com/yoursite.
The free plan also has limited storage and bandwidth, which is usually fine if you simply want to test an idea or experiment with building a website.
Why I Decided to Upgrade
Although it is possible to start for free, I decided to upgrade to a premium plan fairly early on.
I wanted the website to look more professional and have its own domain name rather than using the Wix subdomain.
Premium plans remove Wix ads from the website and allow you to connect your own domain. They also include additional features like increased storage, analytics tools and marketing options.
At the time of writing this article in 2026, Wix premium plans typically start from around £9-£10 per month, depending on the plan and features you choose. Prices and features can change over time, so it is always worth checking the official Wix website for the latest information.
Building the Blog While Working Full Time
One thing I quickly realised is that building a website takes time.
I work full time, which means leaving the house early in the morning and coming back later in the day. After work there are normal things to do like spending time with family and everything else that comes with everyday life.
So building the website didn’t happen overnight.
Instead I worked on it a little bit each day.
Sometimes I spent several hours trying to fix something that turned out to be a small setting. It could be frustrating at times, but slowly the website started to come together.

You Don’t Need to Be a Technical Expert
One important thing I learned during this process is that you don’t need to be a technical expert to build a website today.
You just need patience and the willingness to learn as you go.
There were plenty of things I didn’t understand at first, but with tutorials and support it was possible to figure things out step by step.
What I Hope This Blog Becomes
My hope for this blog is simple.
I want it to become a place where we can share useful information, family experiences, travel ideas and everyday moments that might help someone else.
If something we write helps even one person make a decision, plan a trip, or discover something new, then starting this blog will already have been worth it.
Final Thoughts
If you have been thinking about starting a blog but never took the first step, maybe now is the time.
You don’t have to know everything.
You don’t have to be perfect.
Sometimes the only way to find out if something is worth doing is simply to try.
And if you never try, you will never know where it might lead.
